July 13 – 16, Pan American Masters Games

Cleveland, Ohio is proud to host the 2024 Pan-American Masters Games July 12-21, 2024. The Games are a quadrennial celebration of active lifestyles and sportsmanship featuring athletes from more than 50 countries competing in nearly 30 medal-contending sports which include track and field, mountain biking, and road racing.

Select up to three sports including orienteering with one entry fee.

- Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Saturday – July 13 – Sprint – Kent State Campus
Monday – July 15 – Middle – Boston Run – CVNP
Tuesday – July 16 – Long – Kendall Lake – CVNP

What is mixed punching?

SI Air enabled but optional.

Isn't non-Air always an option? ("Mixed-punching" comes off sounding like there will be pin punches at some controls.)

Any possibility of spectator races?

Although mid-July in Northeast Ohio sounds a bit scary.

Less scary than mid-July in Birmingham, AL though...

Greg - you might be able to pre-run the courses as part of the vetting/wakeup crew - contact the organizers... Beat the mid day heat too...

It depends. Likely as humid, not as hot (mid-80s instead of 90s), much worse vegetation--- I recall it was pretty bad in May 2004 on this map.

SPORTident should call it what it is, SI and SIAC punching as 'mixed punching' could include pin punching, dibbing (I know it's a popular UK term) and air.
The progression of 'punching' is away from punching--pin punching was punching your control card, SI is to dab or is more dibbing than punching and SIAC is said to be contactless punching (oxymoron?) from half a metre away.

The sports commission has requested comfortable temps and lower humidity.

Note: Registration is through the PAMG organization. Athletes are eligible to compete in up to 3 sports and 5 disciplines.

Registration deadline through Pan-American Masters Games is June 12, only a few weeks away. For the sport of orienteering, registrations are capped at 200. Register soon to secure a spot!

Given that the venues are all to the south of the city, will it be possible to register in Kent on the Saturday instead of going downtown?

Unfortunately no, the Pan-Am organizing committee wants all athletes for all sports to get their credentials and pre-race packets downtown at the accreditation center. You can find the dates and hours on the PanAm overall schedule page:
